Elijah Johnson scored a career-high 39 points on 13-for-22 shooting, willing KU to a 108-96 overtime victory over Iowa State on Monday night at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
Johnson scored KU's final eight points in regulation, including two free throws with 4.9 seconds left to tie the game at 90.
ISU's Korie Lucious missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have won it.
Johnson then scored seven of KU's first 10 points in overtime and had an assist on KU's other three points, a three from Travis Releford.
ISU lost despite making 17 of 41 threes (42 percent).
Releford added 19 points, while Kevin Young and Jeff Withey added 13 each.
The loss was ISU's first at Hilton this season.
KU (24-4, 12-3 Big 12) will play host to West Virginia at 1 p.m. Saturday.
