Box score

HOW THEY SCORED

First Quarter

10:25 — Tony Pierson 5 pass from Jake Heaps. Matthew Wyman kick. After an incompletion on the first play of the game, Heaps completed six straight and marched the blue squad down the field 70 yards in eight plays in 4:35. Pierson caught three passes for 31 yards, Justin McCay and Christian Matthews added receptions, as well, and James Sims rumbled for 19 yards. Three plays before Pierson and Heaps hooked up for the TD, Sims appeared to score, but the play was called back because of a holding penalty. (BLUE 7, WHITE 0).

Second Quarter

14:48 — Jimmay Mundine 19 pass from Heaps. Wyman kick. KU's second scoring drive of the day covered 67 yards in five plays and 2:48 and featured more work from Heaps through the air. After Pierson and Sims combined for 25 rushing yards on the first two plays of the series, Heaps hit McCay for 10 yards and, two plays later, found Mundine down the seam for the touchdown. (BLUE 14, WHITE 0).

1:22 — Mundine 5 pass from Heaps. Wyman kick. After a couple of failed drives for each side, the blue squad struck again with a four-play, 41-yard drive that took 1:05. Heaps was 4-for-4 passing on the drive, with two completions to McCay and another to Pierson. The touchdown was set up by a pass interference call on white team linebacker Darius Willis, who tripped up Pierson at inside the 10 yard line. On the next play, Heaps floated a perfect touch pass to Mundine in the back corner of the end zone. (BLUE 21, WHITE 0).

0:34 — Josh Ford 25 pass from Michael Cummings. Trevor Pardula kick. The white squad showed late signs of life with a four-play, 70-yard TD drive that took just 40 seconds. Cummings hit Ford with a 41-yard pass on second down and, two plays later, found him again in the back of the end zone. Brandon Bourbon ran twice for nine yards. (BLUE 21, WHITE 7).

Third Quarter

1:17 — Matthew Wyman 33 field goal. Highlighted by a one-handed grab from Justin McCay for 47 yards, the blue squad padded its lead with the first field goal of the day. The long pass play, a six-yard toss to McCay and a seven-yard run from Sims were the only plays on the drive that went for positive yardage. The drive covered 60 yards in eight plays and took 4:36. (BLUE 24, WHITE 7).

Fourth Quarter

9:22 — Justin McCay 5 pass from Heaps. Wyman kick. The blue squad put the game out of reach when JaCorey Shepherd scooped up a Brandon Bourbon fumble and set the Jayhawks up at the white team's 24 yard line. Four plays later, after a nifty 27-yard, reversing-of-field pass from Heaps to Sims, McCay made a leaping grab in the back of the end zone and got one foot down before being knocked out of bounds. McCay also delivered a vicious block to help spring Sims' long gain. (BLUE 31, WHITE 7).

2:59 — Wyman 31 field goal. Another fumble by the white team set up the blue squad's final score of the day. The drive covered 20 yards in eight plays and 4:25 and featured freshman running back Colin Spencer's first action. Spencer ran twice for 12 yards and Sims ran twice for 8 yards. (BLUE 34, WHITE 7).

Todd Simpson in reply to Micky Baker

reminds me of Reesing Brisco

Micky Baker

Heaps does seem to be a lot sharper than Crist was. Also, McCay had what, 8 or 9 catches for about 100 yards? Can't wait to see them play a game. Reason to be optimistic.

Jesse Newell

Blue defeats White, 34-7. Jake Heaps finishes 20-for-28 for 257 yards with four TDs.

Ian Ballinger

Well...today was a good day. KU football getting back in action (signs of hope), and the BronyDoc in Kansas City. #KUFootballFaithful!

Todd Simpson

Dirk Medema

2 FG's?!?!

Jesse Newell

Wyman knocks through the 31-yard field goal. That extends the Blue's lead to 34-7 with 2:40 left.

Rock_chalk_nyc in reply to Ian Ballinger

Show me any program worth a hill of beans with a track around their football field. Its an embarrassment. That said, fortunately we have AD in place now that is going to take care of it and improve facilities for the track team too.

Jesse Newell

Michael Reynolds bats down a pass to the flat by Heaps. Field goal try coming.

Jesse Newell in reply to Ian Ballinger

4 minutes.

Jesse Newell

Sims dropped at the line by Simmons. Third and 9.

Jesse Newell

Nasir Moore with some nice coverage on Parmalee in the end zone. Incomplete pass. Second down.

79ictjhawk in reply to Darin Bradley

TV announcer said Bourbon too.

Ian Ballinger

time left?

Dirk Medema

Spencer looking good?

Darin Bradley

Nice play call for Spencer

Jesse Newell

Spencer takes a pitch to the outside and gains 10. First and 10 at the 14.

Darin Bradley in reply to Jesse Newell

Clearly Brandon on the replay. 2nd in a short period of time.

Jesse Newell

Sims stopped at the line by Shane Smith and Michael Reynolds. Fourth and 1 1/2.

Jesse Newell

Sims gains seven on a carry. Third and 1.

Jesse Newell in reply to Darin Bradley

Pretty sure it was Cox. He came out of the pile.

Jesse Newell in reply to Dirk Medema

I'll have to see a replay.

Jesse Newell

Colin Spencer gains two on a run.

Darin Bradley

The was Brandon again with the fumble

Dirk Medema in reply to Jesse Newell

The radio said it as Dangerfield again defending the TD

Jesse Newell

Cox gains three up the middle but loses the ball. Blue recovers.

Dirk Medema

20 - 26 for 257

Jesse Newell

PAT is good. Blue 31, White 7 with 8:30 left in game.

Jesse Newell in reply to Jesse Newell

Greg Allen had pretty good coverage. McCay just out-leapt him.

Ian Ballinger

31-7?

Jesse Newell

Justin McCay adds to his impressive day, holding off a defender before leaping to take in a five-yard TD catch.

Ian Ballinger in reply to Jesse Newell

Oh man... that worries me

Jesse Newell

Sims gains a half-yard to the left. Victor Simmons with another tackle.

Jesse Newell in reply to Seth Nesmith

I think it has to be one of the biggest areas of concern after losing three starters.

Jesse Newell

Heaps to Sims on a short screen pass, and he reverses field from the right to the left. Great block on the backside by McCay, but it might have hurt a defensive player. Deron Dangerfield is slow to get up. Gain of 27 for KU.

Darin Bradley

GREAT balance by Sims

Seth Nesmith

Jesse should we be nervous about the offensive line?

Jesse Newell in reply to Dirk Medema

Turf monster.

Jesse Newell

Twelve men in the huddle on KU's offense. Five-yard penalty.

Dirk Medema in reply to Darin Bradley

Paint stripe?

Jesse Newell

Tedarian Johnson with the "sack" on Heaps. He's leaping into everyone on the defense to celebrate.

Darin Bradley

Did anyone touch Shepherd?

Jesse Newell

Bourbon catches a pass then fumbles. Keon Stowers forces the fumble. JaCorey Shepherd recovers it and cuts back inside with a lot of blockers. He falls on the turf monster, though, at the 24.

Dirk Medema

Arnick confused with Martin? Isn't there about 50 lb difference?

Jesse Newell

Courtney Arnick submarines Cox. Nice tackle. Loss of four.

Jesse Newell

Cummings with no gain on the option.

Darin Bradley

Jess you are about 15 seconds ahead of the TV

Jesse Newell in reply to Kooky

Chris Martin has made a couple plays.

Darin Bradley

Nice pass by Cummings

Jesse Newell

Cummings steps up in the pocket and makes a nice pass to Billy Owens over the middle for 15 yards.

Kooky

Are there any impressive newcomers? JuCo/FR/RS?

Jesse Newell

End of the third quarter. Blue leads 24-7.

Ian Ballinger

6-6 this season? fair assessment or am i hoping to much

Jesse Newell in reply to Dirk Medema

Walk on. He's a sophomore from Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Jesse Newell

Bourbon gains eight on the option right.

79ictjhawk in reply to Todd Simpson

+1

Dirk Medema

Who is Wyman? Haven't heard of him before today. Thought we had more options even this year.

Jesse Newell

Wyman puts through the 33-yard field goal with plenty of distance. It's not Blue 24, White 7 with 50 seconds left in the third quarter.

Todd Simpson

we just won the BCS title

Todd Simpson

OMG they made a FG!!!!!

Jesse Newell

Heaps gets pressure up the middle, and he fires a pass incomplete to the end zone.

Dirk Medema in reply to Jesse Newell

a they have other non-coaches as well, yes

Ian Ballinger in reply to Dirk Medema

Gah, that went by fast.

Jesse Newell

Mundine is back out there.

15 minutes with running clocks.

Jesse Newell in reply to Ashwin Rao

Coaching staffs are split up. Weis is coaching neither.

Ian Ballinger

How long are the quarters?

Ashwin Rao

Who is coaching the two teams?

Jesse Newell

Timeout Blue team. It's Blue 21, White 7 with 1:59 left in the third quarter.

Bigd in reply to Jesse Newell

That's not good

Dirk Medema in reply to Todd Simpson

7 of 7 receptions

Ian Ballinger in reply to Dirk Medema

I suppose it's not a "Bad" point... I just don't think it should be the number one priority right now.

Darin Bradley

Weird mix of play calling this series.

Jesse Newell

Nice tackle by Tevin Shaw, who brings down Pierson on the draw play for no gain.

Jesse Newell

Should mention tight end Jimmay Mundine hobbled off a few plays ago. Looked like a possible right leg injury.

Todd Simpson

7 receptions 94 yards for McCay

Dirk Medema in reply to Dirk Medema

star

Jesse Newell

Sims breaks a tackle, but he still loses a yard around the right side.

Dirk Medema

5 to 5!

79ictjhawk

nice

Jesse Newell

Heaps with a deep pass to McCay, who brings it in with one hand. Amazing catch for 47 yards. He's pumped up, too.

Darin Bradley

Nice catch

Steve Reigle in reply to Micky Baker

I thought it was just my conection.

Todd Simpson

WOW

Dirk Medema

McCay is now 4-4 on receptions?
