FINAL: KU gives away 10-point lead in 30-23 loss to Northern Illinois
Kansas blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead, giving up 17 unanswered points as Northern Illinois rallied for a 30-23 victory on Saturday at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, Ill.
KU's Tyler Patmon intercepted a Jordan Lynch pass an returned it for a touchdown with 14:33 left, but almost nothing went right for KU after that.
The Jayhawks had a holding penalty on the extra point, then Ron Doherty missed the 30-yard attempt wide right.
On NIU's next play from scrimmage, Lynch jump-passed to Martel Moore for a 65-yard TD pass.
Following a Mathew Sims 44-yard field goal that tied it with 7:58 left, Leighton Settle finished a 53-yard drive with a two-yard TD run to give NIU the lead.
KU went backwards five yards combined on its final two drives.
In his first game back from a three-game suspension, KU's James Sims rushed 18 times for 91 yards and two TDs.
Lynch was 23-for-35 for 235 yards passing with TDs and one interception. He added 22 rushes for 134 yards.
Dayne Crist finished 10-for-26 passing for 147 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
KU (1-3) will have a bye week before playing at Kansas State on Oct. 6.

Kind of makes Todd Reesing look like a god. If the O line can not hold them out, you have to have a mobile quarterback who can ad lib.

We can make all the coaching changes we want, but if the play calling is the same as the last staff..... not much will change except maybe the spread.
With almost 5 minutes left and three TOs in our pocket, I don't see why you don't run the ball at least once if it's been working better than the passing game.
Being predictable is what got us in trouble the last few years.

How hard is it to throw a 5 yard pass to you TE? He threw behind them all day.

I do miss the mangino days, but I look forward to a solid future. Its time to simplify the playbook, try out another QB.

wow, and to think that was our last chance at a W this season... huge improvement from the Gill era right???? i'm not blaming CW yet because it's his first year but jesus, you have to win these ones

That was pathetic, I hate this in fairness to Crist junk, he missed wide open guys, sure the play calling wasn't great, but he missed a lot of open guys. He also is about as athletic as a 4 year old girl. We win that game with a mediocre QB, and he isn't even that.

I think our Oline wasn't great. our recievers weren't great. our entire offense just doesn't make second half plays. its time to try our another QB

EVERY quarterback gets pressured. Crist just can't handle it. He reacts like a freshman. He needs to be benched. The experiment is over. Can't lose the whole season over one player!

So that's why he was behind the TE all day and missed a wide-open receiver in the end zone.

In fairness to Crist, he was pressured all day because our O-line is inept. But he missed at least 3 big throws.

just tuned in... but seriously --- 4:47 to go with 3 timeouts left, and we don't run a SINGLE TIME in the last two series?
Why, because our throwing game is going so well?

butter... it's been 4 games... This team would be much better off with Webb and GIll than Weiss and Crist... that doesn't mean that Weiss won't be much better in the long rung but we'd be 3-1 with Gill and Webb.

when we can't beat Rice or NIU, with a defense that is much better than last season... from what I can see, our freaking offense is just crap in the 4th quarter. we just meltdown

Worst in the big 12 but have the best damn stadium track and BB team. I guess in 13 years that may lead us to the big east.

Game planning was excellent . . . to use the Jayhawk formation . . . It's the in-game coaching . Charlie falls back on what he knows best -- passing-- even if it isn't working! This is NOT a good sign that the program is in good hands.

not all on dayne, he just hasn't made plays or good decisions and several of his throws were behind the receiver, overthrown or thrown late

Charlie wants so bad to be a screen pass heavy offense. Better figure out how to execute one.
