  • 8:15 p.m., Oct. 15, 2011
  • David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, Lawrence, KS

FINAL: KU's offense musters just 6 second-half yards in 47-17 loss to No. 3 Oklahoma

The Kansas football team's offense disappeared in the second half, as No. 3 Oklahoma pulled away for a 47-17 victory on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Jayhawks mustered just six yards on their 27 plays of the second half. They had only first down in the final 30 minutes — coming with 3:10 left during garbage time.

OU receiver Ryan Broyles caught 13 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns. He also set a new NCAA record for receptions in a career during the game.

Quarterback Landry Jones was 29-for-48 passing for 363 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

Meanwhile, KU quarterback Jordan Webb had his worst game this season, completing just 13 of 25 passes for 108 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

KU (2-4) will play host to Kansas State at 11 a.m. on Oct. 22.

OMG! Where is the Oklahoma sooner fan who said that his team was going to rack up 135 points on the jayhawks? Great performance by the KU D for keeping the OU offense out of the red zone.

ALL YOU NEGATIVE NANCIES AND COMPLAINERS CAN JUST SHUT YOUR TRAPS.

The defense played with passion, competitiveness and made some great tackles. ROCK CHALK PUNKS!

Micky Baker 8 years, 4 months ago

Really? Punk! I bet you also believe 2.4 million fewer jobs after $787 billion in stimulus spending(supposedly) was a success too, huh?

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

your the punk. I understand you think that all these years from watching on the couch makes you know everything. But lets see what the pros say about this game. I'm willing to bet, most will be impressed with Kansas play last night.

Cmill1221 8 years, 4 months ago

Why ask the pros? Let's just see what the score says.

Pitthawk34 8 years, 4 months ago

I am interested in what we look like next week. If we are blown out of the water against Kstate, who I dont feel is as good as their record then the clock is ticking. Win next week then he will have a 3rd year. Some of the play calls in this game were just head scratchers. Do we have any screen plays in our playbook? or is it just up the middle 3 straight plays and a punt. It is one think if it is working but I really did not see it working. I think it was a matter of running time off of the clock to try to make the game look closer that it really was.

Look here, we have a right to be negative when we feel this team is headed in the wrong direction. A little early to say without seeing them play against teams that are somewhat closer to talent. When people complain we are asking for accountability. Something that this university should have been doing the last 30 years instead of saying "wait until basketball" Now with a horrible program we had better hope the big 12 stays together or we can blame our placement directly on those who took football for granted throughout the years and never held such administrative decisions to a higher standard of accountability.

onlylookin2score 8 years, 4 months ago

Uhh...screens are all we ran besides busted draws and incomplete slant route passes in the second half

onlylookin2score 8 years, 4 months ago

Jeeeeze... I mean.. I want nothing more than for KU to win... I do believe we made an extremelly valiant effort in the the 3rd defensively... But that does not take away from a poorly called and executed offensive 3rd quarter.... lapsing over into the 4th... Gill is EXTREMELY too conservative (along with coordinators offensively..) not to mention entirely to reserved... 20 year olds need to see anger and dissapointment from their head coach.. IT MOTIVATES!!..... Look I've been watching KU football for 25 years... I have literally never been so disappointed in a head coach... MIKE STOOPS>>>>> available???!!???

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Overall I'm pleased with today. It wasn't a 30 point game despite what the scoreboard says. Of course people are going to say coaching was horrible. It wasn't, there was a great gameplan on board. Offense didn't execute it, remember we lost Hatch, that hurt us. Webb played poor, but hes young. We are talking about a team of 18/19 year olds going against a team of 22/23 year olds. Have some perspective. OU is a national contender. If you feel that we played horrible, or Gill should be fired after this game(after other games you have a case) then God bless this university. Good game fellas.

Alex Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Well said. You're a smart guy! The age of these players cannot be forgotten. Counting the punter and kicker we will have 20 starters back next year. Only 4 seniors starting.

Cmill1221 8 years, 4 months ago

You ate right about this not being a 30 point game!! It should have been 50!! OU wasn't up for this game and flat had a B effort. They missed easy plays all the first half and had 3 TOs. One on the 1 yard line. They in all reality should have beat us by way more. Good effort on defence tonight tho.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

and we missed plays also, its a 2 way street. In reality it was closer then the final score (hints why they students actually stayed longer)

AzNHawk 8 years, 4 months ago

AGREED Hawk90!!!

A great effort from the freshmen/sophomores against a seasoned and veteran oklahoma team.

Let's keep improving jayhawks!!! Get better!!!! Gotta get betteR!

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

If our defense can play like it did today, we can beat ISU, UT, Mizzou and K state however K State defense might be the best in the league.

texashawk10 8 years, 4 months ago

KU just played the best defense in the Big 12 and ran for 150+ yards on OU's defense without any meaningful contributions from the passing game prior to Hatch getting injured.

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

wasn't the spread like 35? Yes I love moral victories take that Vegas Bookies!!! Well that OklahomaSooners Troll was only off my 90 something points.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Look, first off the emotions of a coach hardly matter. Get off that, most kids who play sports don't care how their coach looks. Second, our offense missed alot of opportunities. The made Freshman mistakes and guess what? THEY ARE FRESHMAN. Only two plays I took issue with play calling, the 3rd and plus 5 plays when it was a 13 point game. Should have thrown it. We are talking about Chuck Long, he is still putting his system in place, We don't have the recievers yet to run his offense. Long was the OC on an amazing ou offense earlier this decade. I'm sure he knows what he is doing.

Micky Baker 8 years, 4 months ago

Kansas has now got a chance, if the coaching staff gets some guts and starts letting these kids exploit their strengths. There is no excuse for the way the offense played in the second half, except for PLAY CALLING. They didn't make any adjustments at all. Same Ole, Same Ole. It is so easy for other teams to stop ya when they know whats coming.

TG, you need to understand that this isn't Buffalo. This a program that just won the Orange Bowl in January 2008. You are making a joke out of it, with better players than Mangino had when he got here.

Briscoe was a Freshman during the Orange Bowl Year. Todd Reesing started his sophomore year. Meier started the year before, for the most part. Meier was a WR for his first year during the Orange Bowl. Jake Sharp was a Sophomore. It wasn't like that team was "aged" by any means. Aqib Talib was a Junior that year. They had Brandon McAnderson and Marcus Henry who were seniors, and the Tightend, but Biere is pretty good. You didn't even use him down the middle tonight.

This coaching staff will lose games for these players. This offense was better than the plays you called for them tonight. Sure, there were some errant throws, but you didn't need some of those long play attempts. You only needed to move the chains in the second half, and, what 1 first down late? Pathetic, but I don't blame the players. I blame the coaching staff for not letting this kids grow.

TG, You need to change your style so you can compete at this level, or resign. We don't want another Terry Allen.

Alex Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

While I agree to an extent that we should have passed more have you seen our wide receivers play this year? They drop passes like it's their job. Do you remember last week when we tried to pass more? The best way to keep this game within reach was to run the ball and keep the clock running. Texas attempted to drop back to pass last week and they gave up 3 defensive tds. The OU defense is at their best when they are rushing the passer. Check Hawk90 up top on how we have a bunch of Freshmen and Sophomores playing Juniors and Seniors. The kids played their hearts out tonight and I can be proud of that. There isn't some magical coach formula that makes your offense superior than one of the best defenses in the country.

Also, it wasn't our offense alone that won our games in 2007. It was our defense, which had a ton of older players.

Eric Williams 8 years, 4 months ago

This is funny. Last week it was "Run - why are you letting Webb throw INTs" and this week it's "Why won't you pass more?"

Some fans want to see Gill fail rather than support him until we part ways.

AzNHawk 8 years, 4 months ago

I dont pay much attention to the point spread. I decided to focus on the on-field performance. Granted the offense didnt execute and move the chains as much as we'd have liked, the D did a great job in those critical situations.

Alot of good things to take away from this game even though it resulted in a loss.

snoride2003 8 years, 4 months ago

closer than the final score - if webb played like he can this game might have been close. Significant improvement on D!

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

It wasn't a 30 point game because OU didn't come to play. Had nothing to do with us at all! So stop with the great defensive performance because we gave up over 600 yards again! If OU doesn't turn it over as much as they did we are looking at another Osu style blood bath.

And

New plan. Turner doesn't allow the team in the locker room at halftime. Keep them in the end zone like middle school teams do. Because whatever is taking place in there is not working. Maybe it's high voc paint fumes, hidden mold, something in the water, errr coaching but the halftime problem needs to be solved.

hope you see perse in the stands! It's a terrible waste of my time scrolling past his posts!

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

Your right. We did make the best of the situation. And still lost by 30!

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Final scoreboard, but it was a much closer game then that. Guess what Mangino got killed by OU also, we just played the number 3 team in the nation a team full of vets and for 3 quarters it was a two possession game. Last week you had every reason to complain, but I don't understand how you can be mad about today.

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

Read the stats and tell me how "close" this game was

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Here we go, thank you. If you think the stats are the end all and be all then you know nothing of football. Through three quarters it was a 2 possession game (that's close if you don't understand) Our team fizzled out at the end. But hey I guess in candy land, 19 year olds are supposed to play amazing against 23 year olds. Alot of mistakes by our team. It was a close game relatively speaking,

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

We gave up alot of yards, but we didn't give up TDs, their players made big mistakes, but guys like you would pin that on our coach. OU was on the offense for over 80 percent of the second half, they better give up yards. Half time for young teams are harder. Because it breaks flow, it a learned skill to keep coming with the flow. Amazed how blinded you can be by hate.

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

We actually gave up less yards in the second half. Meh, details

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

but it all adds up. They didn't play well the whole game, but when you get as many opportunities as they did it adds up. It was a 10 point game at half. But on you big point pants and look through the glasses of logic and not of hate.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

wow im tired that last sentence makes no sense. What I was trying to say is put on your big boy pants, and look through the glasses of logic and not of hate. I'm still 50/50 on gill, but we played well tonight and I promise you every sports analyst will agree with me.

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

Lol! Late start times are getting to all of us. Yawn...

Alex Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

He didn't say they gave up more yards in the second half. Come on man, I want to respect you as a fellow jayhawk but you make it hard.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

The offensive play calling wasn't horrible. I can think of at least 6 run plays where if the running back bounced it out, it could have been 50/60 yards. We dropped passes, we missed open receivers. Execution wasn't there by the offense. Play calling was fine, players can make mistakes.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

and I wouldn't you, that is way both of us are on the coach watching and not coaching.

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

I was totally kidding. Proud of the hawks tonight. Offense went flat second half. And of course everybody is saying Fire Turner Gill as usual. Of course the OU fans are pissed too because they expected to score at least 70 on us like okie state. I love it everytime your team loses it's always the play calling it seems like. No we got beat by a better team and this OU defense is one of the best in many years they clamped down and I don't believe if Webb threw it more that it would have mattered against OU's defense IMHO.

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

I already have turners press conference quotes

Ah saw some improvement

Ah didn't execute as well as we should

Ah need to make more plays

Ah got to keep going and get ready for the next one

Go watch other coaches press conference, hint they all say the same thing. The coaches who go off the norm are either throwing a temper tantrum or making crazy claims( Rex Ryan)

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

You forgot about him forcing his players to recite the lords prayer before they get their cell phones back. Come on aphers usually you're better at bashing Gill than this last weak post. IMHO..

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

Wow! What if gill was handing back cell phones and he found a "sext" from a girl?

Ibajayhawk 8 years, 4 months ago

I thought that our defense played a very good game. But our offense absoultely stunk up the second half which seems to be a reaccuring theme in all of our games. The O line can't keep the qb safe if he is back there trying to figure out what's going on. The receivers seem to really get after it in the first half but don't seem to be able to extend their arms and extend to the ball in the second half except kale. They play a heck of alot better than last year but that half time pep talk gill gives must be laced with sleeping pills. they just don't seem to come out in the second half, ready to play. jordan needs to talk to the coach and let him know that he isn't a 100% and needs to heal his knee before he's ruined for life. Gill get a clue and apply for a job recruiting for a little league team in texas. K-State looks like a team that wants to play for their coach. Kansas well............

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Kansas: Most impressive showing of 2011 October, 16, 2011 Oct 16 12:10 AM ET

By David Ubben Say what you must about this Oklahoma-Kansas matchup.

Is Oklahoma sharp, or anywhere near its best? No. Not even close, really.

But it's impossible not to be impressed with the kind of effort Kansas has put in tonight, regardless of the final score.

There's been nothing fluky about this. Kansas hasn't been at its best either - -Jordan Webb has missed on a handful of easy throws -- but the Jayhawks have gone toe-to-toe with the defending Big 12 champs and looked like they belonged.

That's a far cry from a week ago, when Oklahoma State absolutely embarrassed Kansas in Stillwater.

Tonight, they're putting a bit of a scare into the Sooners, who will be forced to do a little self-examination when this game is over.

Kansas opened its season with wins over McNeese State and Northern Illinois, but even with the comeback win over NIU, this is the most impressed I have been with Kansas all year.

One quick note: OU receiver Kenny Stills has returned from his knee injury.

A non bias ESPN writer.

Micky Baker 8 years, 4 months ago

The coaching staff is entirely responsible for not getting a system in place by the second year. These kids know the plays, and Jordan Webb can get the ball if they don't try the low percentage plays when the situation doesn't call for it. 2nd and short, go for the long bombs. 2nd and 5 or more, move the sticks. If this team is going to win, the coaches are going to have to be smarter in their play calling and they have to be able to adjust on the move.

The players on the defense had a players only meeting, and you would think the coaches would be better prepared after that Georgia Tech Loss. I'm running short on patience after we were sold on how good TG was. So far, I don't see it.

I have a feeling the coaching staff isn't putting in the work that the Mangino staff did. They had the players ready for positions they didn't play in 2007. Like Meier and Briscoe as a freshman. Sharp was a Sophomore then too. Now, I can see that they might have made a few mistakes as a young team, but nonetheless, middle screens, wheel routes by the running backs, and short crossing patterns aren't being used by this team. Line up one of the speedy running backs in the slot with two others in the back field and run Breshears across one way and Pierson across the other. Those players will be open on short 3 one thousand counts. If not, check down to a running back in the middle more often to make the Linebackers pay for trying to blitz.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

I have never heard of a system being in place after two years, it takes 3-5 years. This isn't baseball.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

I probably know a lot more then you. First off, I've actually been a coach, I played for 5 years and so on. Do you understand what schemes are? For a scheme to run correct you need the players. Our defense, in three years has had three different defensive cord and three different schemes. Our offense last year, still ran Mangino's offense, and still are a little bit this year. We don't have the recievers to run what Long wants. You can go ask anyone in the college football world and they will tell you it takes more then 2 years to put a system in place.

okiedave 8 years, 4 months ago

Our defense played inspired tonight. Unfortunately, Oklahoma is simply more talented and experienced. KU still has a difficult time making adjustments in the game plan. The good thing is that we are improving. Gill deserves another season. We have some good recruits and I think Gill will bring this team along.

Ethan Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

what are you implying that skill matters?

Kristen Downing 8 years, 4 months ago

Slighltly better on the defense. Did anyone think Jordan Webb might be more hobbled than we know?! I saw him after a run in the first half absolutely limping and he was not touched. Is Gill possibly trying to protect him...?

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

I'm going to walk down the street and ask total strangers if they think having your team lose by 30, give up over 600 yards on d, and have 16 (I think) yards on offense is a good sign.

I'll report back soon

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

"...offense in the second half..." ambien starting to kick in

smartjayhawk 8 years, 4 months ago

This just in: Gill still sucks ass. That is right. Don't give the ball to your best running back you idiot. Bourbon is transferring you moron.

Alex Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Uh Bourbon is not our best running back. Leave the talent evaluation to everyone else.

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

I was thinking about that tonight. He has got to be kicking himself for not going to Standford!

Instead of having a "stable" of running backs, why wouldn't gill have told Rell to take a hike, red shirt one of the freshman, and have sims bourbon and the other freshman in a steady rotation Let them get in the flow of the game and get a lot of touches.

Eric Williams 8 years, 4 months ago

lol at the Gill-haters.

Bourbon had a concussion from last week.

classclown 8 years, 4 months ago

Perhaps the offense and defense switched uniforms at halftime.

Ibajayhawk 8 years, 4 months ago

If you think that it takes more than one season to impliment a system, I say bull. If it's true that most of these players are freshman and sophomores then they shouldn't have a problem adjusting to a new system. After a whole season and a half shouldn't the players show some kind of improvement. Tuberville didn't take two years to put in a successful system and win with freshman. I still say that how a team plays starts at the top, which is the head coach.

Alex Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Yeah and Tech went 5-7 the year before Tuberville came? No, they have a tad bit more talent than Kansas. I love KU but we are in the bottom 3 in the Big XII when it comes to natural talent. That makes it an uphill climb. Then add that we couldn't rely on upperclassmen but had to put in freshmen and sophomores.

like_n_Lawrence 8 years, 4 months ago

First down, throw 10 yards to the side, get one yard forward, Second down, run up middle, get two yards, Third down, same as Second down, get two yards, or not, Fourth down, punt away...again. Next possession; same thing all over again.

Play calling was so horrible I just wanted to puke. Whoever you are, YOU lost this game for us. It was horrible. I'm a 60 year old grandma and I could have called that game better. Gross. Sorry Offense, your coaches really let you down tonight. The sad thing is, if someone with some coaching talent had been in charge down there on the field, I actually think we could have won this game. That's the worst part of this whole thing.

Defense, you were all AWESOME!

Billy Derringer 8 years, 4 months ago

It sickens me how damm soft some of you are, to really sit there an say this is ok. o were showing signs of getting better what a joke. its fans like you that has allowed this to go on for more than 30 years, An when we had a coach win the orange bowl, the damm orange bowl he is fun out of town cause he wasnt a nice guy, Well hows you nice coach doing now? fans that say this crap is ok is what is keeping this programm from being anything other than the bottom feeders of the big 12. why dont some of you try to grow a pair, this is not ok in my book!

Ibajayhawk 8 years, 4 months ago

derringer29, you are so right on with your comment. Finally a Kansas fan that does have what it takes.

Alex Berger 8 years, 4 months ago

Has what it takes to send their program into a continuous cycle of failure? I love those...

FLJHK 8 years, 4 months ago

Bottom line KU lost by a large margin and gave up a lot of yardage. But who didn't expect that?

I saw some positives. The defense in the red zone was tough, and KU was very much in the game at half-time, something no one expected.

Most importatntly, I didn't see any give-up in the team. Wish I could say the same thing for the fans. I'm not arguing that Turner Gill is the right coach for this team, but it seems that he has not lost the locker room. I applaud him for that, and wish the fans would do so as well.

P.S. OU is a lot more talented than KU, in case anyone hadn't notice.

like_n_Lawrence 8 years, 4 months ago

In case you hadn't noticed, this was a game we could have won, if we had coaches with even half a brain.

FLJHK 8 years, 4 months ago

Exactly. Talent should win out. Only our inferior coaching dictated the outcome. Please share whatever you're smoking.

Again, I'm not saying Gill is the right guy, but good grief. Get a clue about reality. How many KU starters would start for OU? Not to mention depth.

Eric Williams 8 years, 4 months ago

Exactly. What does that "3" next to Oklahoma even mean? Number of last names in Oklahoma? What a joke, we should've embarrassed OU with our elite talent and pedigree.

/sarcasm

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

So on sports radio down here in OK on Friday afternoon they were talking about Turner Gill and a few of the guys on the show (Dean Blevins & Al Eschback) were saying that they've got good Nebraska sources that people in the know never seriously considered Turner Gill a good coach and that he was kind of known as being "lazy". Thought that was interesting that Nebraska insiders would say that supposedly of course.

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's taking naps at halftime!

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

Exactly must of taken an extra long nap during MAC championship beating an undefeated Ball State team if I remember. Yeah I get it for a lot of you fans you're not happy with Gill. Fine. I'm willing to give him (or any coach for that matter) 3 years minimum to try to build their program. If coach Gill had character issues then yeah maybe get rid of him like for instance Howard Schnellenberger at OU. However, at the end of the day at least we gave a guy a chance to try to build a program his way and with integrity and not cut corners. If KU is getting drummed next year every game then it's probably time for a new coach. Now that we've faced probably 2 best teams in our conference I'll be interested to see how KU performs against the rest of the big XII going forward.

ahpersecoachingexperience 8 years, 4 months ago

And for those of you scoring at home.. The combined record of the two teams that we have victories over this year....wait for it...7-6

Gregor Southard 8 years, 4 months ago

I want to like Coach Gill. Class act. I'm in if he fires his DC. To all the Mangino haters. He won 3 bowl games. We had, I think one maybe two wins before that

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

Yeah Mangino did win us 3 bowl games and was a very good coach IMHO. Geez if he would have just learned a few things from Stoops and Snyder about what to say and not say he would probably still be our coach. But let's be honest his mouth continually got him in trouble and it finally caught up with him. Mangino is to blame for losing his job. I think if Reesing hadn't of been hurt (hamstring injury wasn't it) we might not have lost 7 in a row in what was considered to be our best offensive team going into the season. But that's football and injuries are part of the game.

Ibajayhawk 8 years, 4 months ago

okhawkfan what do you call holding your first team meeting of your tenure and telling the team that this player and that player are your guys and that the rest of the players should just enjoy their time at ku? This team has never played together as a team and why should they if they know that no matter how well they do, they will never get to be one of gills 'guys' and therefore will never get a chance. I guarantee you he does not communicate with about half of the players on the team. How is that supposed to build team spirit? He is really good at making people that aren't under his power like him and think what a swell guy he is but don't buy the cow, it's dry. One question, how do you go from asst. head coach down to recruiting coordinator if you're really a great coach? Why doesn't Tom want him coaching NU? Oh yeah he likes winning.

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

As opposed to telling a student athlete to go back to the ghetto to get shot? Yes you're right how dare you HCTG. I'm just willing to give him 3 years minimum. You disagree I'm cool with that and respect everybody's opinion. I honestly don't have any facts about what Tom Osborne or any other Nebraska insider truly thinks about Tuner Gill. I found it interesting though that apparantly he was known as being lazy (all rumor of course). Guess what you're saying is Lew didn't do his due diligence on this hire if Nebraska people in the know really didn't care for Turner Gill's coaching abilities. Man did Turner ever so run that Buffalo team to the ground. Again if Turner Gills team next year plays this poorly I'll be saying it's time to let him go. Maybe I'm just too patient and easy on TG I don't know...

OKHawkFan 8 years, 4 months ago

He's gonna have to get us to a bowl game next year. However, if we did only have 5 wins next year if the defense was way way better and we lost a few really close competitive games (no more embarrasing blowouts with complete second half melt downs) where we had a chance to win it at the very end then I might be willing to see a HCTG year 4. But absolutely no bowl by year 4 and he's gone that goes without saying. But man I must really applaud you ku fans for already quiting on this team. We are at the halfway point and still have 6 games remaining. We might be able to win a couple more this year.

fu7il3 8 years, 4 months ago

What was sad was how quickly the fans gave up. There was a pretty good sized exodus of the student section with five minutes left before the half. They were only down 13 at the time.

This was the most lopsided game I have ever seen that was that close on the scoreboard.

DallasJayhawk1 8 years, 4 months ago

I don't see this type of game any different than if we were playing b-ball against a bad opponent. Everybody gets up for playing us in hoops and some games we don't really show up until the 2nd half, let the other team hang around, etc. OU in this game really didn't want to play lights out until they had to--especially after a big win vs. UT last week. Yes I give our guys credit for trying, playing with nothing to lose, etc. But the 2nd half was more indicative and the true reality of our current program.

JayHawk_from_SWKS 8 years, 4 months ago

How do you know when progress is made? The trolls come out. Was it a perfectly executed game? Certainly not, and there is blame to go around on the coaches and players. But, the defense showed vast improvement, especially considering they played a top 5 team. The offense didn't play near their potential, but we have seen how well they can play, and there is still plenty of season left. Who knows how much better they could play if they got some genuine support instead of negativity no matter what happens. Let's see how the rest of the season goes before we jump to conclusions.

uhm.... wrong? What the hell is this spin? WE LOST THE GAME!!!! WE GAVE UP 47 POINTS!!!! WHY ARE WE PATTING OURSELVES ON THE BACK FOR THIS?!?!?!

you either lose, or you win. Lets look at two performances this year: vs NIU and vs OU. Which was the better performance?? 42 points given up to the huskies, who averages 39.6 per game? OR 47 points given up against OU, who averages 45 points per game? 17 scored against OU who averages giving up 15.8 points per game? OR 45 points scored against NIU who gives up 32.9 points per game?

OR

WINNING against NIU?

OR

LOSING against OU?

What the hell are we talking about in these articles? Why isn't the focus of media coverage on lighting a fire under these coaches? We did it to Mangino the second he started losing games again. I don't care how you look at these games, the coaches have not made a single adjustment. They don't motivate their players. They can't scheme their way out of a cardboard box. Bottom line - they are LOSERS.

IF you want to say we "LOOK" good at times, you're right. We have some talented players. But that talent is wasted under poor coaching and direction.
