FINAL: Texas Tech rallies from 20-point deficit in 45-34 victory over KU

Texas Tech dominated the second and third quarters, overcoming an early 20-point deficit in a 45-34 victory over Kansas on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

The Jayhawks — who came into the game with just one lost turnover all season — gave it away four times Saturday. That included Jordan Webb's first three interceptions this year.

KU started well, taking a 20-0 lead with 3:39 left in the first quarter on a fumble recovery by receiver Kale Pick in the end zone.

Just 7 minutes, 51 seconds later, Texas Tech grabbed the lead, 21-20, following a 13-yard touchdown pass form Seth Doege to Jacoby Franks.

Doege completed 29 of 46 passes for 366 yards and three touchdowns with an interception.

Webb, meanwhile, was 16-for-22 for 239 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

A highlight for KU was Brandon Bourbon, who rushed 10 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. He also contributed KU's longest run of the year: a 51-yard TD run in the first quarter.

KU (2-2) will travel to Stillwater, Okla., to play Oklahoma State at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Your bLind if a Quarterback throwing into doulble coverage is the receivers fault. he got lucky a few times or else this would have been worse, and it could have been ALOT worse, no matter how the Naysayers spin it.

Aznhawk

a LOSS is a LOSS., but 45 to 34 is better than a 55-7 blowout. Did I see fight and competitiveness today? I sure did! Rock chalk bitches!

Kgphoto in reply to Waywardjay

Not the big problem. Receivers sucking was a much bigger problem.

Bwag

A&M got welcomed to the SEC today.

KU falls to 2-2 with the loss.

Waywardjay in reply to Kgphoto

The big problem here was Webb throwing double coverage, enough said.

Cshjhawk

Weak decision making in the 4th qtr

Kgphoto in reply to Eric Williams

I'll take him.

Kgphoto in reply to Seth Nesmith

The future is now. He's the best we have.

Eric Williams

who covers Blackmon next week?

Eric Harrison

Score here Texas Tech. It was only penalties that kept you from actually destroying us. Our defense is pitiful. And our team (RBs and OLine were decent) is much the same.

Seth Nesmith

receivers did suck. but webb is not the future.

Kgphoto in reply to Waywardjay

Obtuse? Don't make me go Shawshank! The receivers sucked today. Sucked!!

Seth Nesmith

this team is not coached fine. i don't believe we are that far behind in talent on defense. some is coaching.

Waywardjay in reply to Kgphoto

Don't be obtuse, He was getting protection today, he shouldn't have been throwing into double coverage.

Waywardjay in reply to Larry Evans

teams coached fine, condition could be better.

Kgphoto in reply to Waywardjay

You mean the deflected interceptions, and the passes that hit KU receivers in the facemask?

Aznhawk in reply to Scfd187

Yes, of course. The #'s speak for themselves, but have we seen IMPROVEMENT? Yes we have, in most aspects minus the defense. IMPROVEMENT IS IMPROVEMENT IS IMPROVEMENT. This is what i heard from most fans last year. More competitiveness and improvement. Have we seen it? Yes. On the defense? No.

Larry Evans

Young players has nothing to do with a poor conditioned and badly coached team.

Jessenewell KUsports.com staff

39,621 is the official attendance.

Waywardjay in reply to Kgphoto

Really ? KG, that got him even 3 touchdowns 3 interceptions and the interceptions are alot more telling.

Kgphoto

Full on blitz!!

Scfd187 in reply to Aznhawk

Nobody expected them to be good, but they are possibly the worst defense in the history of division I college football. Look at the numbers, they don't lie.

Larry Evans in reply to Aznhawk

bad excuse Aznhawk. Tech has a lot of young players also.

Eric Harrison in reply to Scfd187

Good work guys. Can't do anything right (other than run the ball effectively down 3 scores)

Eric Williams in reply to Jessenewell

ah i missed the suspension news.

Aznhawk in reply to Scfd187

The D is already bad as it is. It's sad that patience doesnt exist in today's society. Ive always heard the commentators express how young this KU team is. I wasnt expecting much this year due to the youth. What do you expect? New kids coming into a new defensive scheme? Patience is a virtue.

Jessenewell KUsports.com staff in reply to Eric Williams

He's definitely still here. I don't think his suspension to begin the season got him off to a good start.

Kgphoto

Deleted.

Mueller's PAT makes it an 11-point game. KU needs to recover this onside kick.

Kgphoto

Wayward?

Eric Williams

Jesse, question (and maybe Tait would know more) - What happened to Jimmay Mundine? He was touted as an excellent TE and listed in program guide. Is he still here?

Scfd187 in reply to Eric Williams

I hope you're right. But shouldn't we be better in all areas?

Kgphoto

Way?

Waywardjay in reply to Eric Williams

The recruits came for the offense. WE missed on the Dline. I think we would have a better defense had we gotten a few more lineman.

Jessenewell KUsports.com staff

Ten-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Steward from Webb.

Kgphoto in reply to Eric Williams

  • a million. Thank you for stating that.

79ictjhawk

TD!!!

Kgphoto in reply to Waywardjay

I disagree.

Eric Williams in reply to Scfd187

last year we lost to K-State and Baylor 55-7. Not only was our D bad, but we couldn't score. Gill chose to fix the offense first

Waywardjay

Webb's lost it today.

Waywardjay

He can get it back, but seriously.... We need to attack if we are trying to win.

Scfd187 in reply to Jayhawk2181

You're kidding yourself. This D is historically bad. We get crushed every second half.

Waywardjay in reply to Kgphoto

Knee Jerk ? Look at the play calling..... he clearly has no faith in WEbb. Not since the first half really.....

Eric Harrison

Arkansas-A&M is a GREAT finish for what it's worth.

Kgphoto

No Malice, Way.

Kgphoto in reply to Waywardjay

I have faith KneejerkJay.

Jayhawk2181

it's not that the bad D doesn't bother us, but you have to be realistic about the pace of change. Obviously gill focused first on offense, then he'll pick up more defense

Waywardjay

Need to throw the ball down 3 scores

Matt Bowers

under 5 min. I'm going to get blitzed so that I don't remember this. I'll be back after I drink my face off. Thanks for the update on the score...that just means more booze to handle the shame.

Waywardjay

if we have no faith in Webb throwing the football I want to see Mecham.

Kgphoto

Bourbon! Bourbon! You get the idea.

Kgphoto

Do not quit!!

Scfd187 in reply to Aznhawk

How bad would the d have to be for it to bother you?

KU will have a short field, starting at the TTU 45.

79ictjhawk

Put # 5, better than GT game

Jessenewell KUsports.com staff in reply to Matt Bowers

I'm good.

Jayhawk2181

here's hoping for a safety, a kick return TD, recovered fumble, TD and 2, another fumble and a long Pierson TD run, oh and a white flag from Tech

Aznhawk

All most ku fans wanted last year was improvement. We see it on offense, but not so much on d. Now they want to fire the coach after getting what they want?

Matt Bowers

Does that number include you Jesse? This is hard enough to watch on tv, couldn't imagine how terrible it would be in person.

Waywardjay in reply to Larry Evans

would rather have seen something going straight forward.

Scfd187

The offense is not the problem.

Kgphoto

Full on Blitz!!!

79ictjhawk in reply to Larry Evans

Best post of the day, for you

Waywardjay in reply to 79ictjhawk

I just don't like it personally.

Kgphoto

Full on Blitz!!!

Larry Evans

Sims did not follow his block for the TD. Bad decision to cut inside. Too slow of back to use to run that play . Bourbon or Miller should have run that.

Matt Bowers

nearly...nearly

Jessenewell KUsports.com staff

This place is empty. Maybe 7,000 folks left?

79ictjhawk in reply to Waywardjay

Play was great, Sim should have gone for the corner

Kgphoto

Full on Blitz!!!

Eric Harrison

All of those runs were working ... I get it. But the clock was ticking away. How about mixing in a play action? If its an incomplete the clock would have stopped.

Jessenewell KUsports.com staff

Call stands.

Matt Bowers

After the next score, KU is going to run the ball and eat clock.

Waywardjay

I don't like that play, just me.

Jayhawk2144

well we lost good game

Matt Bowers

Why is the play under review...my bad

Kgphoto in reply to 79ictjhawk

Nope. Bourbon.

Jayhawk2181

knee was down and he didn't get it

Matt Bowers

Slipped running the ball! Thank god were sticking to the running game. WTF KU? Why is the place under review, we didn't get it.

79ictjhawk in reply to Kgphoto

Courtney Osborn

omgggggg

Jayhawk2144

yES I AGREE

Kgphoto

Should have run Bourbon. Anyone?

Seth Nesmith

are you serious

Cshjhawk

Tripped by the turf!

Seth Nesmith

why did he cut up

Jessenewell KUsports.com staff

Good play on the Statue of Liberty, but Sims falls down. The RB has to score there.

Eric Williams

omg go to the corner

Kgphoto in reply to Waywardjay

I like you Way, but that's Kneejerk Hall of Fame.

Eric Harrison in reply to Jessenewell

It's a fine timeout ... IF he didn't let 20 seconds roll off the clock unnecessarily. Either get the F'ing play in or call it earlier.

Seth Nesmith in reply to Matt Bowers

+1

Waywardjay

Give Webb this chance..... and if he fails, Mecham next week.,

Matt Bowers

Guess what? After the timeout, KU is going to run the ball to get back into a game down 3 touchdowns...b/c that makes as much sense as farting in an elevator.

Kgphoto in reply to Eric Williams

Yeah. Kinda like Bourbon!...

Courtney Osborn

where the heck is darrian miller?

Eric Williams in reply to Kgphoto

WOW! that's really fast.

Waywardjay in reply to Larry Evans

Pigballin, He has no fait in his Quarterback's ability to make the throw, he hasn't in the last 3 drives.
