On the final day of David Beaty’s tenure as football coach at the University of Kansas, the Jayhawks would need a break or two to go their way on Black Friday in order to recover from a three-touchdown deficit and topple No. 11 Texas.
Kansas was unable to get its storybook ending for head coach David Beaty and the senior class. The Jayhawks, who made a late push, struggled to get much going on the offensive end through the first three quarters in the final game of the 2018 regular season. Texas, meanwhile, made enough plays to pull off a 24-17 victory over KU Friday afternoon in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
The hope Friday for the Kansas football seniors, particularly the ones who experienced the Jayhawks’ previous home matchup with traditional powerhouse Texas, was to duplicate the thrill of their 2016 victory over the Longhorns.
The final Kansas football game of 2018 figures to be memorable, as the Jayhawks close the season by playing host to No. 11 Texas. It will mark the end of the four-year David Beaty era for the program, as well as the final college football game for Jayhawks such as Daniel Wise, Joe Dineen, Steven Sims Jr. and many more.
