Meet the Unsung Hero of Kansas’ 2008 NCAA Title Squad at Dillons
Mario Chalmers commanded most of the headlines following Kansas’ win over Memphis in the 2008 national championship game – and deservedly so. Still, anyone who witnessed the Jayhawks’ victory knows it wouldn’t have been possible without the clutch play of Sherron Collins, whose steal and 3-pointer in the waning minutes ignited KU’s comeback in the 75-68 overtime triumph.
Four years later, Collins will return to the Sunflower State to sign copies of “Beyond the Phog – Untold Stories from Kansas Basketball’s Most Dominant Decade.” Authored by ESPN.com’s Jason King, the book features chapters on 40 players and coaches and provides a behind-the-scenes look at one of college basketball’s true dynasties. Collins is featured prominently on the book’s cover.
For Collins – a former All-American and the fifth-leading scorer in KU history – the book-signing will provide an opportunity to reconnect with Jayhawk fans, which made his time in Lawrence so memorable.
