Fly or Drive?

Drive. Tulsa is a shorter drive than Oklahoma City, as it's just 218 miles from Lawrence if you start by heading south on US 59. Even with gas as expensive as it is, you should be able to get up and back from Tulsa without filling the tank more than twice.

What to do at the tournament

The BOK Center is located in downtown Tulsa, with most businesses shutting down late at night. During the day, you should be able to find sandwich shops and cafes on Boston, Main and Cincinnati Streets just east of the arena.

Also, McNellie's is a well-known Irish bar (it will be the week of St. Patrick's Day) located at 409 East 1st Street, just eight blocks east of the BOK Center.

Otherwise, if you're looking for a place to hang out after the game, it's best to hop in the car. The Brookside District is located about three miles southeast of the BOK Center between East 31st and 41st Streets on S. Peoria Avenue, featuring restaurants and also nightlife. Meanwhile, the Cherry Street District is located east of S. Peoria Avenue along 15th Street, offering plenty of different dining options.

What to do away from the tournament

One main must-see attraction is the Riverwalk located along the the Arkansas River at the west end of the 96th Street river bridge in Jenks, just east of Tulsa. The Riverwalk features a wide array of restaurants and also an outdoor amphitheater, which often is the spot for live music and entertainment. Locals say Los Cabos on the Riverwalk is the place to go if you're looking for good Mexican food.

Have kids? Just one block away from the Riverwalk is the Oklahoma Aquarium, which features an underwater viewing tunnel where sharks and other fish swim beside and above you.

The Tulsa Zoo also is located in northeast Tulsa and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.

The Riverwalk is actually in Jenks (about 11 miles) from the BOK Center and is really lacking. Many places have shut down and it's not worth it even if it were next door.

McNellie's is a good call (probably where I'll be when I'm not at the games) and there are several other bars and restaurants in that area. El Guapo's is right across the street and is much better than Los Cabos and much closer.

There are 4 main areas to go to: Blue Dome, Brady District, Cherry St and Brookside. All can be accessed from the BOK Center by free shuttle service

All your drinking spots can be had within downtown really but Brookside can be a good option too. You'd be disappointed if you went all the way to the Riverwalk though.

Most importantly. Rock Chalk and I hope Tulsa treats us better than OKC.

Thanks for the info, tulsahawkfan. Feel free to add anything else folks should know about Tulsa. I've changed the Riverwalk location above.
