I'll go with 70-61 KU in a slugfest.
72 - 64 KU
Oh, and the song I can't get out of my head is "Just Breathe" by Pearl Jam.
The KU bigs are throwing in some vicious dunks in pre-game. Poor Chase Buford couldn't get the ball over the rim, though.
Song I cant get out of my head is 2112/Rush.
Do you think Cole can improve on the second half of the TT game or will he struggle again tonight?
So, Jesse... Question number one... Why do I have to hit refresh to see my post and your response. I thought chat was automated! This is cool, nice new feature, but I hope it is just the two of us!
kuwells — I'm using it for something it's not supposed to be used for. I actually have to click to put your post up. Sorry for the delay now and in the future.
this game scares me more than any other so far this year. inside out is the right approach against this zone but i'm not sure if we have the discipline yet to make that work, so it will come down to the amount of turnovers/missed layups in the paint and the success of collins/x on premature, impatient 3's. i'll say 85-81 KU but without confidence.
ICTHAWKFAN — Great question about Cole. He's obviously a big key tonight with the size Baylor has. With the recent loss of his grandmother, it's tough to know how he'll react. Just remember, though, that no matter how much he is struggling offensively, he still is, hands down, KU's best defender. His blocks are up and his fouls are down from last year. It's awfully tough to do both of those at the same time.
I hope it is NOT just the two of us... Sorry, that sounded a little weird.
It's OK, kuwells. We're cool.
Why is KLWN being prevented from streaming the pregame, game, and postgame online? There are many Jayhawk fans around the country that follow the Hawks online and we have been cut off! Unhappy fan
akg — I believe that KU Athletics has the exclusive rights to the game, so it prevents the live streaming of local radio stations so that it can charge on its Web site for the game. If KUAD is looking to make money, blocking KLWN and other stations is the only way to go.
I go 77 64
Jesse - a little off topic but is there anything new on the recruiting front for next years FR class?
D'oh. Guess you're not into censorship. Would that be my 5th ammendment right to say something stupid?
So, Lazer 105.9 is also in blackout mode. What is going on there???
Keeping on my toes already, kuwells. Don't worry, I took care of it.
melrank — Not too much. I believe Josh Selby, the No. 2 PG in the class according to Rivals, is going to visit soon. I believe KU is one of his favorites. Other than that, I haven't heard much. Royce Woolridge, who is already signed, is scoring a ton of points during his senior year in Arizona. Also, a couple other highly ranked guys are waiting until the spring to decide.
Ku wins by 20 apparently Cole got ripped by coach I think he will have a monster game against baylora bigs!!!
Rock chalk jayhawk!!!!
Who has a bigger game ku's bigs or baylors bigs??
Thanks Jesse! I was just trying to crack you up. Not open myself up to the masses. So, thank you....
Also, can you get a read on Cole? You know, a fire in his eyes during warm-ups??? He has his hands full with the bear cubs tonight. If he is in the "win one for the gipper mode", I might have to change my prediction...
Zaveeaa — I'll have to go with KU's bigs, though I'm a big fan of Udoh for Baylor. Marcus Morris needs to have another big game for KU, especially against the size that Baylor puts out there (6-10, 6-10, 7-0). Also, the way that KU tries to beat the zone is by moving the ball quickly and getting it to the free-throw line and also the short corners. When Marcus gets it inside, he needs to make good decisions, whether it's attacking a big man or getting it back outside for an open shot.
kuwells — It did crack me up, but unfortunately, it did after I clicked the button to post it. Oh well. No harm, no foul.
Cole was throwing down some nasty dunks earlier, but honestly, I wasn't looking for the "fire in the eyes" as closely as I should have been. He was a bit emotional earlier this week when talking about his grandmother, so again, it's tough to predict how he'll perform out there tonight.
88 - 72 KU
KU starts fast, lets Baylor get back in the game the middle third of the game. Then we slowly start to pull away late.
Always get a little nervous when we play Baylor...
The WaveCam is moving to my left, so be ready to suffer from motion sickness while watching replays on ESPN2.
Hey, KU. Coach and I got some surprises for Baylor planned to speed up the game and neutralize that zone defense. Stay tuned!
Anyone watching Cincy now? I think we are just fine without Stephenson...
Jesse: So, maybe some insight into your routine before a game. What the heck are y'all up to around there? I would have never guessed you had free time to run a chat session 30 min before a game...
kuwells — Gary Bedore usually is nice enough to pick me up, and we arrive about 1 hour, 40 minutes before the game. After grabbing a bite to eat in the media room, I usually go over my notes from the game and start the blog with you guys. Most of the time, I go ahead and come out to my media seat at least an hour early just in case Sherron Collins is in street clothes or something crazy is happening (He's not, by the way).
Jesse, do you know who is calling the game for ESPN? If it's a repeated question, I apologize.
Final--88-73--my prediction. Jesse, when you did the Cram Session with Keegan, Keegan wasn't wearing a wild color tie--did that surprise you?!!!!!
Thanks, Jesse - that's about what I knew, too. I guess we're gonna have to let it play out this spring.
I'm wondering with their size if BU can handle our bigs without packing it in and double teaming. If so, they can really spread the floor with their length and put some pressure on our perimeter game.
Our bigs have to become inside threats if we are to win this game.
Final prediction: KU--88 Baylor--73
Jesse, What do you think about K-State's win over Texas?
denver — Ron Franklin and Hubert Davis. Isn't today the announcer swap day for ESPN?
mikendal — I wasn't surprised about the tie. I can't complain about any ties when I don't usually wear one.
mike — I've been on the K-State bandwagon for a while now.
If the Wildcats play defense like that, they're going to be tough to beat in March. They commit too many fouls, but that can actually be an advantage come March, as usually officials like to keep the whistles even in the NCAA Tournament.
Jesse - For future chats, you might want to check out http://www.coveritlive.com/ , which is a much faster application for chats. I think it's free also.
Our bigs have to take it strong right at BU's bigs. None of this fall away junk or baby hooks from 10 feet away. Take the ball with two hands right up into the chin of the big guys and the refs will call a defensive foul. If we can get a couple of them in early foul trouble, it will loosen things up inside.
I don't want to see X and Sherron and Brady and Tyrel settling for 3 point shots all night. No more than 18 attempts from beyond the arc, fellas! Get the ball into the middle of the zone around the free throw line and crack it.
Even better than settling for half-court offense: put some pressure on the darn ball and get out in transition. Jump Baylor with full court pressure after made baskets during spurts to throw them off; trap them in the half-court when they are coming off ball screen or they pass it to the corners.
I don't know about that, hadn't heard anything about it.
Is anyone else watching Roy's boys getting their tails kicked by Wake Forest at home?! It's a wonderful sight!!
Professor — Great suggestion. We've been trying to develop our own chat feature that would be similar to that, but it hasn't been completed yet. I like the Cover It Live application where I've seen it used (mostly on mlbttraderumors.com).
To finish an earlier thought, Cole looks laid-back in warm-ups, but he's normally a pretty laid-back guy.
I've not seen NC is some of their recent losses but the way they've lost is almost shocking - and yes it's sorta wonderful :)
Newell.... Espn360 Again has the Kansas Baylor feed for the viewing impared..... my question tonight is....
Which name is harder to pronounce Lacedarius Dunn Or Ladarius Webb of the Baltimore Ravens....
wayward — Great question. I'll go with Ladarius. LaceDarius is long, but there's really only one way to say it. With Ladarius, you could say LAY-darius or LUH-darius.
Roy: "I love those kids in that locker room so dad gum much. When we got down by 20 to Wake, I was worried this wine and cheese Carolina crowd was gonna turn on my kids and I was gonna have to have security kick 'em all out. 'Ol Roy feels so much hurt for those dad gum kids right now, but I'm stayin'.......I'm stayin'. Now where's my Coca Cola?"
I'm just wondering how many times they can lose and stay in the top 25?? Maybe they're testing the pollsters? I'm thinking they'll drop out by the 10th, maybe 12th loss.
Thanks for the UNC tip. Wake is doing anything they want! Down 16 at home!
Someone interested in investing might want some stock in Kleenex this year. If UNC 7 loss, maybe 8 loss UNC stays in the top 25, I suspect roy has photos of someone. Regardless, lots of tears this year for the baby blue.
Wonder if this means the Texas win over UNC doesn't really look all that good right now.
The Michigan State win still looks pretty good for UT, though.
Excellent point, Jesse.... Scott Drew's really doing a fine Job down there.... another question... Can baylor Conitnue to pull the recruits he has pulled in and when should we expect them to unseat texas or Oklahoma as the big men down south ?
wayward — I don't see Baylor unseating Texas any time soon (money and facilities with a good coach always seem to keep a program on top), but I might buy the OU argument. The Sooners are struggling mightily, even with headline players like Willie Warren and Tiny Gallon. OU really needs to focus on defense, where it has been awful this season.
Why is nobody answering the song in the head question?
I like this feature.
KU - ROTFLMAO!!! My thoughts exactly, dad gummit! AND dag nabbit!
Jesse, once we tip are you staying here to chat?
kuwells — We could use more song suggestions. At least to get Eddie Vedder out of my head for a few seconds (not that there's anything wrong with Vedder, as I really like that song).
mel — For today, I'm going to switch back over to do our normal routine at 8 p.m. I'm sure some people are used to seeing the updates there during and after the game, and I also can't keep posting questions while trying to watch the game at the same time. Hopefully, in the near future, we'll have an application that posts your guys' comments automatically.
With Anthony Jones, 6'10" at SF.......is this the game where we finally see Marcus Morris get some minutes at SF?
See that's interesting your throw that argument in there.... Texas clearly has the recruiting advatange, but i would take Scott Drew any day coaching the game. We saw this a couple years ago when Billy G was down at ATM, Coaching advatange shows up on game day against the Longhorns.... I would say Drew keeps going down there in about 4 years he maybe the top squad in the South,
Agree, Jesse. The MSU win for UT is nice. Just trying to figure out if I am going to be POd after the game in Austin. I've spent a lot on tickets and hotel... By the way, are you going to Austin? If so, I'll buy you a beer before the game. You can let Keegs keep the chat going.
KU: nice Roy quote. Kicking that guy out for hazing the free throw shooter was classless.
Well it's been fun everyone, but time to fix a drink and settle in so I can get my bi-weekly exercise jumping up and down in my living room! Thanks Jesse for setting this up!
Ocean Breaths Salty by Modest mOuse has been in my head for 3 weeks.
Lots of big spreads in the predictions - obviously people have recovered from the Tennessee game.
Baylor is good and for us to win by double digits will be an excellent win.
This game will be a grinder unless we really can crank it up from outside.
I'm going conservative:
KU - 75
Baylor - 71
Well the Cincy band is playing Europe - The Final Countdown. Did that help?
pizza — Maybe. I thought that last time about Marcus against a tall team, and we didn't see it.
Modest Mouse songs are catchy, that's for sure.
Jesse - I'm not much of an expert on chat applications, but if you could have a running chat box imbedded in the game blog that was instantaneous (similar to the tweets) that would be awesome - unless Jaybate wanted to post (that's a joke, I love the guy).
KU 85 Baylor 66
kuwells — I will be at Austin. Maybe I'll see you there.
mel — That would be ideal, for sure.
Brady is starting over Taylor.
Inspired game tonight by Cole - the "real" Sherron returns and X gives 15. Erase the memory of last years tourney defeat!
8:06 p.m. No more entries allowed.
Thanks everyone for chatting.
