The Keegan Ratings
Jackson doubles up
After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He'll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players' individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom)
1. Darnell Jackson: Will this man ever stop improving? Had 21 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot, and did not turn the ball over. KU needed its big men to have a big scoring night and they all responded.
2. Brandon Rush: Drove aggressively and tidily, which enabled him to tie a career high with six assists, against just one turnover.
3. Mario Chalmers: Attempted only six shots from the field and totaled 10 points, six assists, and one turnover.
4. Darrell Arthur: Playing with a tight calf muscle, Arthur did a nice job of establishing himself as a scoring presence early in the game and finished with 16 points. Had just one rebound.
5. Russell Robinson: Attempted just five shots and scored 11 points.
6. Sasha Kaun: Played well defensively and contributed six points and four boards in 17 minutes.
7. Rodrick Stewart: Driving shot that trickled in before the buzzer provided the final 24-point margin in a game in which KU was favored by 23.5 points. No wonder KU fans who live in Las Vegas love this guy.
8. Sherron Collins: Playing with a sprained ankle, Collins moved well but didn’t shoot well. He misfired on all but one attempt.
9. Cole Aldrich: An aggressive post player with a bright future, Aldrich had three boards and two blocked shots in just eight minutes.
10. Jeremy Case: In a busy three minutes, he had a steal, a rebound, and two points.
11. Tyrel Reed: Picked up an assist in the final three minutes of the game.

As I have often heard, someone, somewhere always knows what the spread is and is conscious of it. I wondered last night why KU didn't pull the ball back out on that last possession.

I for one hope Jackson does not stop improving.

I think coaches should put the pedal to the metal until they have the spread in hand. All the money donors put on games, they deserve it. Mack Brown and Pete Carroll get it.
